Sarkandaugava overpass will significantly relieve center of Riga from trucks - Kirsis

RIGA, Oct 6 (LETA) - It is expected that the new Sarkandaugava overpass in Riga will be opened very soon, and it will make it possible to significantly relieve the load of trucks in the center of Riga, Vilnis Kirsis (New Unity), Deputy Chairman of the Riga City Council for traffic infrastructure and development issues, told journalists at a press conference before the overpass load test today.

He emphasized that this is a historic moment, because the overpass is almost finished and only the final stage remains before it can be put into use by the people of Riga.

The politician is sure that the overpass is a part of a combination of measures and objects that will relieve the center of Riga from trucks. According to him, the overpass will also be the inner bypass of Riga, as well as an important traffic junction for the residents of Sarkandaugava.

LETA observed that two trucks have currently driven onto the bridge, thus starting its load testing.

Final results for all load measurements will be compiled by next Tuesday.
