Stakis does not see reason for opening talks on changes in coalition at Riga City Council

RIGA, Nov 3 (LETA) - Liquidation of one of the three posts of Riga vice-mayor would mean opening talks on changes in the coalition at the Riga City Council, and it is not necessary right now, said Riga Mayor Martins Stakis (For/Progressives) in an interview with the Latvian public television today.

As Riga vice mayor Edvars Smiltens (Latvia's Association of Regions, LRA) has been elected to the parliament, the opposition Harmony party called on the Riga City Council to liquidate on of the vice-mayor's positions.

Stakis said that there are no such plans as it would mean to establish new relations in the coalition.

According to Stakis, the National Alliance and LRA have not provided information which National Alliance's politician - Einars Cilinskis or Edvards Ratnieks - will be nominated for the vice mayor's position.

Stakis hopes that the new government coalition will open the way for the new Riga Development Plan.
