RIGA, Oct 13 (LETA) - The city council of Latvia's southwestern port city Liepaja on Thursday adopted the amendments to the 2022 municipal budget worth EUR 7.4 million, the local government's spokeswoman Zita Lazdane informed LETA. 

The local government's expenditure has been increased by EUR 5,582,385, which includes EUR 1,543,176 worth of state subsidies and transfers, the local government's basic budget worth EUR 3,742,124 and EUR 297,085 worth of pay services. 

The largest portion of expenditures - EUR 560,815 - have been earmarked to finance the increased energy costs and preparation of documentation related to energy efficiency measures. EUR 420,358 have been allocated to professional sports education institutions and EUR 321,334 have been provided to finance school meals for 5th to 12th grade students.

EUR 200,000 have been earmarked to compensate public transport operators for increased fuel prices, EUR 179,731 for the salaries and EUR 313,990 have been allocated to compensate the local government for the costs incurred from providing support to Ukrainian civilians. 

The local government of Liepaja also plans to take a EUR 1,015,179 loan to build a new kindergarten. 

The overall expenditure in the municipal budget will be increased by EUR 5,582,385 to EUR 136.9 million.
