Vidzeme Party discontinues partnership with For Development of Latvia after election loss

RIGA, Oct 12 (LETA) - Vidzeme Party is ending its partnership with For Development of Latvia after a loss in the 14th Saeima elections, Vidzeme Party leader and Valka Mayor Armands Krauklis informed LETA.

Krauklis said that the board of Vidzeme Party at a meeting on Tuesday concluded that the memorandum of cooperation signed with For Development of Latvia prior to the elections has practically lost its force as the political alliance Development/For failed to get over the 5 percent vote threshold and win representation in parliament.

Vidzeme Party members who ran in the 14th Saeima elections on the Development/For ticket include Valka Mayor Krauklis, Cesis regional council member Andris Mihalovs and Ogre regional council member Raivis Uzuls.

As reported, New Unity achieved the best result in last Saturday's parliamentary elections by winning 26 mandates in the 14th Saeima. The Union of Greens and Farmers follows with 16, United List with 15, National Alliance with 13, For Stability with 11, Progressives with 10 and Latvia First with nine mandates.

In the 14th Saeima elections, Development/For remained 250 votes short of the 5 percent vote threshold.
